If you’re a Desert Sage patient you know that applying sunscreen everyday is not only our ritual, but our #1 recommendation to protect and fight visible signs of aging.
Regardless of your age or skin type, applying SPF daily helps to maintain a youthful appearance and prevent fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation. The most common question we hear is do I need to apply SPF on the days when I’m not outside swimming, hiking, or enjoying the fresh air? The short answer, YES! When it comes to sun protection, one of the most common misconceptions is that you don’t need to use it when indoors. This is 100% not true – so let’s set the record straight on the appropriate use of SPF.
Sunlight consists of 2 types of harmful rays – UVA and UVB rays, both of which can lead to skin cancer.
UVA rays can prematurely age your skin, resulting in fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. These rays can pass through windows.
UVB rays, or burning rays, are the primary cause of sunburns. These rays are blocked by windows.
So here’s the takeaway, unless you’re planning to spend the entire day at home in a windowless room or behind UV-blocking blackout curtains, your skin is at risk of sun damage.
